How we comply with the Prize Draw Code

Local Draws Limited is a signatory to the Voluntary Code of Good Practice for Prize Draw Operators, published by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Clause 3.4 of the Code asks every signatory to publish the measures it has in place. This page is that. It follows the Code's own structure, clause by clause, and says where each measure is written down — because a measure you cannot find is not much of a measure.

Where this page and one of our legal documents differ, the document is the one that binds. This page summarises. It does not create anything new.

1. Player protections

ClauseWhat we have in placeWhere it is set out
1.1 Age verification and no advertising to under-18sYou must be 18 or over and resident in the UK to hold an account. We take your date of birth when you register and an account cannot be created with a date of birth under 18. Every winner's identity and age are verified before a prize is released, by Didit, using an identity document and a facial check. Where we find that someone is under 18, their entries are void, everything they have paid is refunded, their account is deleted and the prize is drawn again. We do not direct any marketing at under-18s.Terms of Use §4 · Draw Rules §3 · Draw Rules §12 · Privacy Policy §16
1.2 Complaints and dispute resolutionComplaints go to hello@localdraws.com. We acknowledge within 5 working days and give a full answer within 4 weeks. If you are not happy with the answer you can ask us to look at it again, and we review it properly rather than restating the first answer. If a complaint is about who won a draw, the prize is held until the complaint is resolved.Terms of Use §15 · Draw Rules §18 · Trust & safety
1.3 Credit card restrictionsCredit card spending is capped at £250 per person per calendar month, applied across every draw rather than per transaction. We do not run instant win draws, for which the Code bans credit cards entirely.Terms of Use §8 · Responsible play
1.4 Monthly spend limitsYou set your own monthly limit and it can be £0. It applies across every draw in every city. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately; raising one takes 24 hours, because a limit you can raise in the moment is not a limit. After your first entry we invite you to set one.Terms of Use §8 · Responsible play
1.5 Suspension and closurePause for a short break. Suspend for a minimum of six months, which cannot be lifted early and stops all marketing from us. Close permanently, at any time.Terms of Use §6 · Terms of Use §8 · Responsible play
1.6 Monitoring for signs of harmFrom the day an account opens we look at how it is being used — how often a limit is reached, sudden changes in how much or how often someone enters, repeated changes of payment method, and anything you tell us yourself.Terms of Use §8 · Responsible play
1.7 Tailored interventionWhere we see something, we act proportionately. Usually that means getting in touch and asking how you are. Sometimes it means suggesting you set or lower a limit. Where the signs are serious it may mean stopping further entries. We would rather have an awkward conversation than take money from someone who is struggling.Terms of Use §8 · Responsible play
1.8 Signposting to supportWe name Citizens Advice, National Debtline, Samaritans and Mind, with their contact details, and we say plainly that they are independent of us.Terms of Use §8 · Responsible play
1.9 Appropriate time between opening and closingEvery draw is open for at least 14 days. That figure exists so there is always time to use the free postal route — a postal route that does not leave time for post is not a real route.Draw Rules §6 · How it works
1.10 Instant win drawsNot applicable. We do not run instant win draws.
1.11 Marketing within the CAP CodeOur marketing follows the CAP Code. We publish a winner's first name and city, tell entrants before they enter that we intend to, and allow them to object. We provide a prizewinner's surname and county to the Advertising Standards Authority where a draw is challenged. Where we make an offer with conditions attached, the conditions appear in the offer itself.Draw Rules §15 · Privacy Policy §8 · Points Terms §3

2. Transparency

ClauseWhat we have in placeWhere it is set out
2.1 Clear summaries of how a draw worksEvery draw page states the prize and what it is worth, the price of one entry, the maximum number of entries, the times the draw opens and closes to the minute, and any conditions attached to the prize. The draw page is part of the rules for that draw.Draw Rules §1 · Draw Rules §8 · How it works
2.2 Prizes awarded by a verified random processThe winner is selected by a cryptographically secure random process. No person picks the winner. Before entries close we publish a fingerprint of the random seed; afterwards we publish the seed itself and the method, so anyone can reproduce the result. A draw with no fingerprint published in advance does not run — the system refuses it, and a redraw gets its own fingerprint before it runs. Every result has a public certificate.Draw Rules §9 · Draw Rules §10 · How we draw · Trust & safety
2.3 Information on the likelihood of winning, before entryEvery draw publishes its maximum number of entries before you enter. That is the number that tells you your chance: in a draw with a maximum of 200, no entry can ever have a chance smaller than one in 200. We publish it before you enter, not after.Draw Rules §8 · How it works
2.4 A prominent free entry route, before any purchaseEvery draw takes free entries by post, one per person per draw, for the price of ordinary postage with nothing to enclose and nothing to pay us. Each free entry has exactly the same chance of winning as each paid entry, and earns the same points. The route is set out in full in the Draw Rules, summarised on How it works, and every draw stays open at least 14 days so there is time to use it.Draw Rules §6 · Points Terms §2 · How it works
2.5 Prompt prize delivery, and no adjustment for low salesEvery draw runs. There is no minimum number of entries and no threshold to hit. We do not cancel a draw, extend it, or swap the prize for something cheaper because too few people entered. We contact the winner and they have seven days to claim, with reminders along the way and longer if they ask. If a prize cannot be provided, the winner receives a substitute of equal or greater value. If a winner does not come forward we draw again, and keep drawing until the prize is claimed.Draw Rules §11 · Draw Rules §13 · Draw Rules §14 · Draw Rules §16 · Trust & safety
2.6 Charitable contributionsNot applicable. We do not currently run draws that make a charitable contribution, and we make no charitable claims.

3. Accountability

ClauseWhat we have in placeWhere it is set out
3.1 Monitoring and regular review of complianceWe review this page and the measures behind it at least once a quarter, and whenever a document or a measure changes in between. Every published document carries an internal record of what must be true before it publishes, and nothing goes live while any of it is outstanding. Decisions about how the product works are written down and reviewed, and a change to any measure on this page is tracked against the document it sits in. Where a review finds something inadequate, we fix it rather than note it.Terms of Use §3 · Draw Rules §21
3.2 Third-party compliance secured by contractAnybody who works with us on a draw, or promotes us, does so under a written agreement. We require every Prize Partner to sign a data sharing agreement before we pass them any winner's details, limiting them to using those details to fulfil the prize and requiring them to delete them afterwards. The commercial terms sit in a partnership agreement, which obliges the partner to honour the prize and records its agreed value. Anyone who markets Local Draws on our behalf, including affiliate marketers, works to an agreement requiring them to follow the CAP Code and our own rules on how a draw may be described. The companies that process personal data for us — identity verification, payments, authentication and email — each do so under a written data processing agreement.Draw Rules §14 · Privacy Policy §9 · Privacy Policy §10 · Privacy Policy §11
3.3 Sector engagement and sharing best practiceWe talk to other operators, take part in sector forums, and keep up with developments across free entry prize draws — including how the Code is being applied in practice. Where we learn something that would help another operator protect the people entering its draws, we pass it on.
3.4 Publishing the measures we have in placeThis page. It follows the Code's own structure so that any clause can be checked against what we actually do, and it links to the document that binds in each case rather than restating rules in different words. This page
3.5 Working with DCMS on keeping the Code fit for purposeWe are in contact with the Department over our signatory registration. Where the Department asks operators what is working and what is not, we will say — and if there is anything we can help with in keeping the Code fit for purpose, we would rather be asked than not.

What this page does not do

It does not replace anything. The Draw Rules and Terms of Use are the documents that bind us, with the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Points Terms alongside them. Where this page and one of those differ, the document is right.

It does not claim more than we do. Where a clause does not apply to us, this page says so rather than leaving a gap.

You can read the Code itself on the GOV.UK website. If you think anything on this page is wrong, or that something we have said we do is not what you have experienced, email hello@localdraws.com and tell us. We would rather hear it.
